About the IBC

Employee benefits law and regulation has required the expanded involvement of professional oversight during the past several decades. Multiple disciplines, such as accounting, actuarial, investment, and legal, have all developed their individual niches since the enactment of ERISA in 1974 and the rest of the employee benefit alphabet soup of acronyms that came into being thereafter.

It was the founding purpose of the IBC to provide a regular forum around which these various professional groups could assemble for presentations and exchange. Without interfering with the professional focus of each, the IBC encourages the coordination of thought and application among all employee benefit professionals. This sharing should produce a better result for plan sponsors for whom this collective expertise is made available.

In addition to those practicing outside, employee benefit professionals employed inside of sponsor organizations are also invited to join. The IBC recognized early on that combining the theoretical with the practical provides greater value for all concerned.

To achieve these worthwhile ends, the IBC meets eight times each year to hear from its members or other experts regarding timely topics of general interest. A balance of health and welfare benefits and pension benefits issues are presented during each cycle. To accommodate busy schedules, an extended lunch hour is utilized. This format allows time for both networking and professional repartee.

When does IBC meet? 12 noon to 1:30 PM usually on the third Tuesday of each month from September through May (except December).

Where does IBC meet? Typically, meetings are held Downtown at the Skyline Club (36th floor of 1 American Square).  However, we may also have meetings on the north side.  Please check each month's invitation for the location for that month.
           
 
How much are the dues? 2018-2019:  $175 per year for the first member of an organization and $130 per year for each subsequent member from that organization. With your 2018-19 membership, you get one free guest pass.  
Can I come as a guest? Yes.  Guest fees are $30 per meeting.  Please note guests cannot attend in the place of a member.  
What do I get? Excellent lunch and interesting speakers who have knowledge and experience.  The opportunity to interact with other area benefits professionals.
